Bahamas

Bahamas: Coral Reef Ecology
Ages 15-18

The Ocean Blue adventure begins the moment you step aboard the Morning Star in Nassau. This 65-foot sloop will become our ocean home for the next 20 days. The expedition, which encompasses the Eleuthera and Exuma Islands, will immerse students in sail training, marine science, diving, ocean research and experiential programming. From day one, students will learn basic seamanship from our crew, as they gradually acquire the skills to sail the Morning Star themselves.

The local ecosystem, with its diverse species and their interactions, will soon become a stunning backyard of sponges and coral, for every Ocean Blue participant. Our staff’s knowledge of local flora and fauna, paired with a hands on learning style, will provide each student with a solid base in marine science.

While snorkeling and diving skills develop, we will teach students how to identify a healthy reef. Soon, they will start to take part in a global effort to check the health of our oceans through a collaboration with Reef Check. The adventure continues as we sail among the many uninhabited islands of the Exuma chain. Here, you will find yourself exploring some of the most beautiful beaches, mangroves and reef systems in the world.
